This time allegations of match fixing has bee thrown around.  We first encountered the allegation when we saw a post from Coach Duckeyyy when he posted on his social media. Then it exploded. Social Media was on fire with screenshots and allegations of match fixing.

The Philippines’ Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Development League (MDL) is embroiled in a match-fixing controversy with several teams taking action against players and calling for wider investigations.

El Ganador Esports, a partner team of RSG Philippines for the league, terminated contracts of two players, Raven “Aeris” Arellano and Christian John “Nyija” Calantoc, over alleged match-fixing. Screenshots of their involvement circulated on social media, but their authenticity remains unverified.

The main RSG Philippines team confirmed the terminations and reported both players to authorities.

Meanwhile, TNCZ4, the developmental team of TNC Pro Team, suspended player “Jiee” for actions “not aligned with the standards” of the organization. They suspect match-fixing but haven’t confirmed details.

TNCZ4 called for a league-wide investigation to address any “systemic issues” and uphold the league’s integrity. Their opponent, ONIC Arsenals, also reported the incident to the league and denied any involvement in esports betting.

These actions follow a revelation by AP Bren head coach Francis “Ducky” Glindro about a student, Jigen Paul “Jigs” Masangkay, allegedly offering a player $1,730 to throw matches. Masangkay has been removed from his collegiate esports club.

MDL Philippines Mired in this kind of issues is needed to be addressed promptly by not only the teams but the league organizers itself. This issue can call into integrity the entire league. How long has this been going on and who are the people involved. It is not only people that needs to get punished, but also the players needs to be educated about the right and proper way to act as professionals.
