The richest prize pool in the history of Esports the grand daddy of them all The International might be held in New Zealand. Gabe Newell the father of DOTA 2 and the GOD at Valve stated that he is interested in holding TI in New Zealand.
Gabe wants TI 2021 in New Zealand since he visited the country for a vacation pre-covid. He also expressed that he feels that the country is a much safe place to live in. Since the pandemic hit and the way New Zealand is handling it, more and more Valve employees have been expressing interest in New Zealand.
New Zealand is one of he countries which was stated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as crushing the pandemic curve. So this is not really surprising given that the pandemic is still raging across the globe.
If the global pandemic continues to worsen, “it certainly is increasing the likelihood of us hosting events [in New Zealand],” said Newell. “If I were to guess when we can host an in-person tournament anywhere in the world, it would be very hard for me to say that; whereas, I think with a lot of confidence, we will be able to plan for that in New Zealand.”
The TI was scheduled to be held in Stockholm but was moved the pandemic. But with DPC2021 already up and running we still do not know where the TI will be held.
