Netmarble Confirms September 4 Global Launch for The King of Fighters AFK

Netmarble confirms that The King of Fighters AFK, its new idle RPG based on SNK’s legendary fighting franchise, will launch worldwide on September 4.

The title gained momentum after its Early Access run in Canada, Indonesia, and the Philippines since May. Fans praised the game’s faithful adaptation of the franchise, retro-styled pixel visuals, and accessible gameplay that catered to both veteran KOF followers and new audiences. The game already drew heavy anticipation with more than 1.5 million pre-registered players ahead of release.

Pre-registration remained open on the official website, Google Play, and Apple App Store, with players securing early access perks. Rewards included up to 3,000 Summon Tickets and the Unique-grade fighter Vice just by logging in, while the first summon guaranteed one of eight Legendary-grade fighters to give fans a powerful head start.

The King of Fighters AFK reimagined iconic fighters from across the series in a pixel-art style reminiscent of The King of Fighters R-2 on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. The game featured strategic 5v5 battles, deck-building mechanics, and a roster of beloved characters that allowed players to craft their own dream teams and relive the excitement of the classic series in a modern AFK RPG format.

The said game adds to a long list of titles who have either carried the KOF’s IP or collaborated at some way. These includes Street Fighter, Metal Slug, Tekken, Samurai Shodown, The Seven Deadly Sins, Dead or Alive, Guilty Gear, Another Eden, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, among others.
