SIBOL MLBB Women’s Team settles for 2nd in AEG ’24 after 2-4 loss to Indonesia

BANGKOK, Thailand – SIBOL’s women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team ends in second place as they were on the losing end of a 4-2 match against rivals Indonesia in the finals of the Asian Esports Games 2024 inside Indoor Stadium Hua Mak on Wednesday.

The national esports team led 2-1 after three games, but Indonesia put up three straight match wins to settle the score as Asia’s best women’s national team.

It was only the Indonesians, composed of Team Vitality members, who gave SIBOL their three losses in the tournament, once in the group stage, and the other in the upper bracket finals earlier when Indonesia won by a 2-0 sweep.

The Filipina quintet breezed past Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Brunei to take the other playoff spot for Group D on the first day alongside Indonesia.

From there, they swept China in the upper bracket quarterfinals before escaping Cambodia with a 2-1 victory to end the second day.

After being sent by Indonesia to the lower bracket, they faced China once more, who defeated Cambodia to go to the lower bracket finals, as they avoided an upset with a 2-1 win.

SIBOL was composed of the main team of the MWI 2024 champions Smart Omega Empress with Lhoureian Hadiyah “Rianne” Alcaraz from ZOL Esports FE standing as the substitute.

This is SIBOL’s last ML:BB event in the game’s 2024 calendar, with the women’s team figuring out in the IESF World Esports Championship Asian Qualifiers last June, and the Global Esports Game and the China-ASEAN Esports competition last September.
