Riot Games PH looks forward to ‘exciting’ 2025 after last year’s progress
Riot Games PH, the country’s local branch of renowned gaming firm Riot Games, looks to have a better campaign in 2025 after seeing huge strides in 2024.
Joel Guzman, Riot Games PH’s Country Manager, opened up their steps to make 2024 a fruitful year for the brand after they established their base a few years earlier.
“I were to generally score it, definitely there’s always going to be room for improvement, so I would say it’s about a 7 or an 8,” Guzman stated in an interview with members of the media.
He pinpointed their recent activities in the past two years, including the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit, the Empyrean Cup, the Liga Republika, and the Acer Predator League, all which have varying levels of success.
Guzman also recognized the people alongside him at Riot Games PH.
“Being fully stacked with people on ground is something that really amplified and scaled ourselves more. There’s actually a lot more to come. So as we already did develop the foundations, 2025 is going to be an exciting year,” he added.
Worlds 2025 a good opportunity for Pinoy LOL players, fans
When asked about 2025 being a good year for Filipino faithful of League of Legends (LOL) esports, Riot Games PH sees it as a perfect time for both to be excited.
“We will be planning again for Worlds because Worlds will be in Chengdu, China. It’s like perfect timing. It’s not every day that you get a Worlds in Asia,” RIot Games PH’s Brand Manager Kimi Salazar stated.
It will be China’s third time to host LOL’s preeminent tournament, with the last time in 2020 in Shanghai when Damwon Gaming (now Dplus Kia) lifted the Summoner’s Cup inside Pudong Football Stadium.
“The announcement of LCP (LOL Championship Pacific) really does open a lot of doors for fans.” Salazar added.
Pinoy LOL fans have been longing for a FIlipino team since Mineski last participated in Worlds 2013, while teams such as West Point Esports and Liyab didn’t have the same success as the fabled Filipino multi-title organization.
Salazar, however, remained optimistic of the country’s hopes.
“It now gives a signal that we have a chance. Medyo mas nag-materialize yung chances,” she added.
Expansion to other gaming genres
Riot Games made waves when it announced that they will launch 2XKO, a fighting game featuring champions from League of Legends, in collaboration with Radiant Entertainment which will be released in early 2025.
Guzman looked at the potential of 2XKO going big in the APAC region, being one of the better markets for fighting game titles, saying “Definitely APAC is going to be part.”
Riot intended on looking at Japan to kickstart their campaign for their new fighting game title, but Guzman added that they are also keeping an eye on the Philippines.
“If we look at the Philippines across the Southeast Asian market, it’s actually one of the popular markets for FGs. There’s a lot of passionate fans for the fighting game genre,” he said.
Riot however wanted to be selective on their expansion despite their entrance to the fighting game genre.
“We want to be selective when it comes to this. We don’t want to just launch for the sake of launching, because it has to be really researched from a game design principle,” Guzman said.
He assured that there will be a lot of research and development for future expansion to ensure that “it’s gonna be a game within a genre that we definitely want to be number one.”
