Aurora escapes AP.Bren scare, ONIC’s skid extends to two as MPL PH Season 15 continues
MAKATI, Philippines – Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons PH extended their winning streaks on Friday as MPL Philippines Season 15 continued in full swing.
Aurora Gaming secured their third consecutive victory after overcoming an early scare from AP.Bren, while Team Falcons PH notched their second win at the expense of ONIC Philippines.
Defending Champs Struggle as ONIC’s Losing Streak Continues
Team Falcons PH initially stumbled in Game 1, falling to a dominant performance from King Cyric “K1NGKONG” Perez, who capitalized on a first-phase Fanny pick to tally seven kills and 10 assists. Meanwhile, Marco “Super Marco” Requitiano had a quiet outing, managing only a 4/5/4 KDA with Granger, while Duane “Kelra” Pillas responded with four kills and 10 assists on Moskov, leading his team to an early advantage.
However, Super Marco came alive in Game 2, delivering a flawless 12/0/4 performance on Granger, punctuated by a savage that turned the tide in favor of Team Falcons PH. He carried his momentum into Game 3, putting on a masterclass with 12 kills and nine assists, spearheading a dominant 24-9 victory over ONIC Philippines.
On the other hand, it was a rough night for ONIC’s Jann Kirk “Kirk” Gutierrez, who struggled throughout the series, managing only five kill contributions while falling seven times. The loss marked ONIC’s second consecutive defeat, following their 1-2 loss against Aurora Gaming earlier in the tournament.
Aurora Survives AP.Bren’s Challenge to Stay Unbeaten
Aurora Gaming started Game 1 strong, controlling most of the match until a crucial Badang setup from Landher “Der” San Gabriel shifted the momentum in AP.Bren’s favor at the 12-minute mark. With James “Jamespangks” Mendoza’s Suyou leading the charge with seven kills and seven assists, AP.Bren completed the comeback to take a 1-0 series lead.
Despite the early setback, Aurora regrouped in Game 2, shutting down AP.Bren’s objective control while Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse’s Hylos played a pivotal role, contributing to all but one kill in their series-equalizing victory.
In Game 3, Jan Dominic “Domengkite” del Mundo took over, dominating on Granger with 13 kills and four assists in a 19-8 rout that secured Aurora Gaming’s third straight win. His performance earned him MVP honors, while AP.Bren was left reeling from their second loss of the season, following a 0-2 defeat to TNC Pro Team last week.
Aurora Gaming now sits atop the MPL PH Season 15 standings, establishing themselves as the team to beat.
Saturday’s Triple-Header: Key Matchups to Watch
Saturday promises another action-packed set of matches as AP.Bren looks to bounce back against a hungry Team Liquid PH squad, which is eager to build on its strong Week 1 performance. Meanwhile, TNC Pro Team and Smart Omega are set to clash in what could be a pivotal match for both teams seeking momentum. The day will conclude with a showdown between Twisted Minds PH and Team Falcons PH, two newcomer franchises looking to make a strong impression in their first MPL season.
With several teams fighting for early positioning in the standings, Week 2 is shaping up to be a crucial battleground for playoff contenders.
