Yangon Galacticos Defend Crown as PH Squads Miss PMCL SEA Podium
MANILA — Myanmar’s dominance in Southeast Asian PUBG Mobile continues, as Yangon Galacticos claimed back-to-back titles in the PUBG Mobile Challengers League (PMCL) SEA Spring 2025, while all seven Philippine representatives missed the podium finish.
The defending champions outclassed the 16-team field, securing 186 total points across 17 grueling matches. Fellow Burmese side Burmese Ghouls trailed behind with 158 points, while Cambodia’s Team Max clinched third with 138.
Day 1: Rangers start hot, BG leads early
Despite not securing a single round win on Day 1, Burmese Ghouls led the standings with 82 points, relying on high placements and kill consistency. Nexus Vanguard followed at 71, while Rangers from the Philippines surged early with two round wins, ending Day 1 in fifth.
Local hopefuls SIN Esports and KHI Esports also picked up crucial round victories, but both teams struggled to keep pace with the frontrunners.
Day 2: YG rises, Filipino teams slide
Yangon Galacticos, who sat third after the opening day, exploded on Day 2 with 139 total points, capped off by a Match 11 win and consistent top finishes. SIN Esports briefly entered the top three with a strong 98-point performance across 12 rounds, but their momentum stalled entering the Smash Rule phase.
Rangers, meanwhile, dropped from fifth to eighth overall with the former Harame Boys squad gaining 74 points, while Match 5 winners 214 Esports settled for 11th after fading late in the competition.
The Smash Rule: Final chase for World Cup slot
With the Smash Rule activated after Match 14, Yangon Galacticos needed a final win to seal the lone PMWC 2025 spot. But it was far from easy. Cambodian squads Good Game Esports and Team Max, along with Burmese Ghouls, extended the tournament to Match 17.
In the decisive game, both Cambodian sides were eliminated early, and BG bowed out just before the top five after a 25-minute standoff. YG, holding firm, kept three members alive and outlasted Nexus Vanguard and Rangers in the closing moments to claim the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner—and a second straight PMCL SEA crown.
PH’s best fall short
Silent Godz emerged as the top-performing Filipino squad, finishing sixth with 115 points. SIN Esports followed at seventh (105 pts), and Rangers ended up eighth (101 pts).
214 Esports missed the top half at ninth with 100 points, while Playbook x Misfits, KHI Esports, and GX Pro ended their major tournament runs at the bottom end of the leaderboard.
Onward to Riyadh
With the win, Yangon Galacticos officially secure Southeast Asia’s lone seat at the PUBG Mobile World Cup 2025, set for July 25 as part of the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
While the PH squads may have missed out this time, their performances offer key takeaways for future regional campaigns. The hunt for global glory continues.
