Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – July 27, 2024 – The Philippines made history as Smart Omega Empress emerged victorious at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational (MWI) 2024, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The all-Filipina team dethroned the reigning champions, Team Vitality, to become the first-ever Philippine team to win a tournament at the Esports World Cup.

A Clean Sweep for the History Books

Smart Omega Empress delivered a dominant performance, sweeping Team Vitality in a Best-of-Five (BO5) grand final. This historic victory ended Team Vitality’s impressive 24-match winning streak dating back to 2021.

The team’s exceptional performance secured them a massive USD 180,000 from the tournament’s USD 500,000 prize pool, the largest in women’s esports history. Sheen “Shinoa” Perez was crowned the Finals Most Valuable Player (FMVP), receiving an additional USD 50,000.

Paving the Way for Women in Esports

The MWI 2024, held as part of the inaugural Esports World Cup, aimed to provide a global platform for female esports athletes. The tournament brought together 12 top teams from around the world, with Smart Omega Empress representing the Philippines.

The MWI 2024 shattered previous viewership records, attracting 265,117 Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCV) during the Grand Finals, according to Esports Charts. This surpasses the previous record of 179,024 PCV set at MWI 2023.

Artyom Odintsov, Co-Founder and CEO of Esports Charts, highlighted the tournament’s impact on women’s esports: “The MWI 2024 has achieved a great viewership for mobile women’s esports. The participation of the Indonesian team in the final played a significant role in it, as well as the substantial prize pool.”
