MAKATI CITY – MPL Philippines Season 15 continues its action-packed opening weekend on Saturday, delivering three intense matchups at the Green Sun Hotel.
Kiel “Oheb” Soriano made a statement in his Team Liquid PH debut, Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera led TNC Pro Team to their first win in nearly a year, and Aurora Gaming scored a crucial victory over reigning world champions ONIC Philippines in a heated rematch of the Season 14 Grand Finals.
Team Liquid PH sweeps Falcons PH in S15 debut
The Cavalry wasted no time asserting their dominance, securing a 2-0 sweep over Falcons PH to kick off Saturday’s triple-header.
Oheb put on a masterclass in Game 1, racking up eight kills and four assists in an 18-minute showdown, helping Liquid PH take down eight of Falcons’ nine turrets. Jaypee “Jaypee” dela Cruz also delivered an impressive performance on Mathilda, tallying 15 assists.
Game 2 saw Oheb switch to Harith, where he continued his stellar form with six kills and five assists, while Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s Joy controlled the tempo with two kills and five assists.
Despite Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel’s strong 4/1/1 Selena performance, Falcons PH struggled to secure major objectives, falling in just 12 minutes.
TNC ends 10-month losing skid with 2-0 win over AP.Bren
After months of heartbreak, TNC Pro Team finally snapped their winless streak, stunning AP.Bren with a dominant 2-0 victory.
Justine “Zaida” Palma took over Game 1 with a monstrous nine-kill, five-assist performance on Suyou, while Lance “LanceCy” Cunanan controlled the battlefield with 11 assists on Vexana.
The Phoenixes kept their momentum in Game 2, securing a 15-6 victory. Yawi’s signature Chou led the way with nine assists, while Salvick “Kouzen” Tolarba’s Granger shined with an 8/1/4 KDA.
This marked TNC’s first MPL victory since May 4, 2024, when they defeated Smart Omega, and their first major tournament win since the Snapdragon Pro Series S5 APAC Open Finals on May 27, 2024.
Aurora Gaming stuns ONIC PH in grand finals rematch
Aurora handed ONIC PH their first defeat in MPL Philippines since winning the world championship, proving they remain a serious contender.
In a grueling Game 1, Edward Jay “Edward” Dapadap’s Badang anchored Aurora’s late-game efforts, securing three kills and three assists, while Kenneth Carl “Yue” Tadeo’s Zhuxin delivered a flawless 3/0/5 performance.
ONIC answered back in Game 2, dominating behind Duane “Kelra” Pillas’ Irithel, who racked up six kills and four assists. Jan Dominic “Domengkite” del Mundo, however, struggled on Granger, finishing with zero kills or assists while falling three times.
Game 3 came down to crucial late-game fights, where Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse’s Hylos became the difference-maker. His 3/2/17 KDA earned him MVP honors, as he consistently shut down Jan Kirk “Kirk” Gutierrez’s Chou, who fell seven times.
Edward’s Edith also impressed, delivering six kills and ten assists to secure Aurora’s first big win of the season.
Sunday Showdowns: More Action to Come
Sunday’s matchups promise more intense clashes as Falcons PH looks to bounce back against Smart Omega, who will be making their Season 15 debut.
All eyes will be on the battle of top roamers as Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo and Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog lead their teams in a crucial matchup.
Meanwhile, Team Liquid PH will once again play the role of gatekeepers for the Saudi-backed organizations as they take on Twisted Minds PH in a highly anticipated showdown.
Adding to the excitement, Oheb and Hadji—former Blacklist International teammates—will face off for the first time since their championship run in 2021, setting the stage for an emotional and action-packed encounter.
