MPL Philippines confirms playoff picture for Season 16 as regular season wraps
MAKATI — The stage is set for the MPL Philippines Season 16 playoffs as six teams advance to the next phase following the conclusion of the regular season inside the Green Sun Hotel on Sunday.
ONIC Philippines clinched the final upper bracket slot after pulling off a gritty 2–1 comeback against TNC Pro Team. Justine “Zaida” Palma’s Hayabusa gave the Phoenix Army an early lead.
However, Borris “Brusko” Parro and Duane “Kelra” Pillas took over in the next two games to seal the reverse sweep for the Super Family.
The victory locked ONIC PH into the second seed, forcing Team Liquid PH to settle for third.
Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya and Jaypee “Jaypee” dela Cruz steered the Cavalry to a clean 2–0 sweep over the already-eliminated AP.Bren. Despite identical points and game differential, ONIC edged Team Liquid by virtue of a superior head-to-head record.
TNC’s loss meant they would fall to the fifth seed, narrowly missing the upper bracket. Their defeat handed the fourth seed to Twisted Minds PH, who will now face them again to open the playoffs. Both teams share an even head-to-head record at three games apiece, adding fuel to an already heated rivalry.
Top-seeded Aurora will await the winner of that matchup on Day 2. The match shaped up as a well-earned advantage for the most consistent team this season.
On the other side of the bracket, ONIC PH will meet the victor between Team Falcons PH and Team Liquid PH in what promises to be a blockbuster series. The latter two squads are no strangers to high-stakes battles, each boasting players with international titles under their belts.
The MPL Philippines Season 16 Playoffs will run from October 22 to 26 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
