Omega, Team Liquid Secure Sweeps as MPL Philippines Season 16 Week 2 Ends
MAKATI — Smart Omega turned back Team Falcons PH, while Team Liquid PH stopped Twisted Minds PH’s hot streak as both squads scored sweeps to close out Week 2 of MPL Philippines Season 16.
Omega rode Dean “Raizen” Sumagui’s aggressive play to claim their second win of the season and deepen Falcons’ winless slump. Hours later, the defending champions flexed their firepower behind Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno and Kiel “Oheb” Soriano, snapping Twisted Minds’ three-game surge and reminding the league of their championship pedigree.
Barangay extend Falcons’ misery
Omega kicked things off with a grind-it-out 12-9 win in Game 1, finishing just under 14 minutes. James “Jeymz” Gloria anchored the squad with a 3/3/6 KDA, including three key assists in the second Lord fight that turned the tide. Kenneth “Netskie” Barro’s Harith added three kills and six assists, while Raizen’s Hayabusa went 4/1/7 to keep Falcons under pressure.
Falcons relied on Michael Angelo “KyleTzy” Sayson’s Baxia to control objectives, grabbing all three Turtles, but his six assists weren’t enough to swing momentum.
Omega shut the door in Game 2 as Raizen shifted to Fanny, posting a 5/1/5 line and hitting max level before the 12-minute mark. The Barangay forced a decisive clash at the 11th minute, secured the Lord, and marched down to finish the sweep with only Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo’s Khufra left standing.
Omega will next clash with defending champions Team Liquid PH on Saturday, while Falcons look to break their skid against ONIC Philippines.
Cavalry twist the narrative for second win
Team Liquid PH wasted no time asserting control in their series against Twisted Minds. KarlTzy’s Fredrinn had his fingerprints on all 17 kills in Game 1, dictating tempo and space as the Cavalry cracked the base in 14 minutes.
A pivotal shutdown on Lance “Lansu” Misa’s Uranus at the seven-minute mark opened the floodgates, with Twisted Minds unable to recover. Michael “MP the King” Endino’s Joy managed only one kill, three assists, and a lone Turtle.
Game 2 was even quicker. Kiel “Oheb” Soriano’s Granger erupted for eight kills and an assist, powering Liquid to an 11-minute finish. Mico “Nosia” Capil’s Moskov never found rhythm, while Miguel “Sionnn” Alcantara’s Kimmy was locked down by Alston “Sanji” Pabico’s Zhuxin.
MP the King’s Hayabusa tried to spark a fight back with three kills and two assists, but Liquid’s lead proved unbreakable.
The Cavalry will battle Smart Omega in Week 3, while Twisted Minds brace for a tough back-to-back against Aurora on Friday and ONIC PH on Saturday.
