Omega eliminated from playoff race; Liquid PH keeps upper bracket hopes alive

MAKATI — “When you try your best but you don’t succeed…”

The line rang true for Smart Omega on Friday night as their MPL Philippines Season 15 playoff hopes came to a crushing end following a 1-2 defeat against AP.Bren, while Team Liquid PH moved one step closer to securing an upper bracket spot with a commanding sweep of TNC Pro Team.

Heartbreak for the Barangay

The Barangay were fighting to stay in contention and looked on track after a dominant Game 1 performance led by jungler Andrew “Andoryuuu” Flora. His Joy finished with eight kills and eight assists in a lopsided 17-2 opener, giving Omega early momentum.

However, AP.Bren responded in Game 2 after making key roster adjustments. Midlaner Jerry “chovskrt” Nicol returned to the lineup and made an immediate impact on Luo Yi, tallying three kills and eight assists in a 15-8 equalizer.

The decider turned into a tense standoff, but Omega’s decision to contest the Lord backfired. Andoryuuu was forced into a defensive position, and three Omega players were picked off, leaving their base exposed. AP.Bren’s minions sealed the deal, ending Omega’s playoff campaign. Landher “Der” San Gabriel played a crucial role on X.Borg with eight kills and four assists in the 22-minute clincher.

With Omega’s loss, Twisted Minds officially locked in the sixth and final playoff spot regardless of their outcome against ONIC Philippines on Sunday.

In the day’s earlier series, Team Liquid PH secured their seventh win of the season with a 2-0 sweep over TNC, moving one step closer to clinching a top 2 finish.

Alston “Sanji” Pabico’s Pharsa led the charge in Game 1 with three kills and nine assists, while Jaypee “Jaypee” dela Cruz delivered one of his best showings on Gatotkaca with a 6/2/8 performance.

Game 2 saw a quick finish as Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya’s Phoveus overwhelmed TNC with four kills and six assists in a 14-2 victory that ended in just 10 minutes.

The loss confirmed TNC’s final placement at 5th with a 5-9 record, while Team Liquid PH improved to 7-5 and will now face league leaders Aurora Gaming in a potential decider for the top seed.

Aurora (11 points) and Team Liquid PH (12 points) are both in contention for the top 2, which secures an upper bracket berth in the playoffs.
