MDL PH Season 5 confirms final four as play-ins wrap up

MANILAFrom 16 hopefuls vying for the second biggest prize in the Filipino Mobile Legends scene, only four remain standing as the MDL Philippines Season 5 heads into its final stretch.

Smart Omega NEOS, ONIC Nine Lives, RRQ Kaito, and Aurora Hunters emerged victorious in their respective matches, securing their places in the semifinals as the league prepares to crown a new champion.

Can’t kill the cat

ONIC Nine Lives clawed their way into their first-ever top-four finish after five seasons, dismantling the Cinderella run of Uncle Drew Gamerpact in a 3-1 series.

Kayn opened the series strong with his Hanzo, netting 4 kills and 2 assists, before Leix fired back with an explosive 15/3/3 Ling game to level the series. ONL then turned to Lansu’s Badang in Game 3, who posted 2 kills and 8 assists to take back the lead, followed by a clutch performance from Sionnn’s Faramis in Game 4 with 7 kills and 9 assists to seal the deal.

Omega NEOS halts the Mayhem

Top-seeded Smart Omega NEOS made quick work of Martial Mayhem in a 3-0 sweep. Kyureem impressed in his breakout season, shining with a 9/0/4 Guinevere in Game 1, while West’s Harith added 4 kills and 5 assists in Game 2.

Though Mayhem tried to mount a comeback, Sica’s Pharsa silenced the threat with a 4/0/4 outing to close the series. The win marks Omega NEOS’ fourth consecutive top-four finish as they eye their first MDL title.

Hunters survive gritty Voltes

Aurora Hunters endured a nail-biting five-game slugfest against 15th-seeded TNC Voltes, who pushed them to the limit.

Voltes took Game 1 with Godzu’s 10/4/5 Karrie, but Lalush’s Lukas brought Aurora back with a 4/2/5 line in Game 2. Manilaboy helped them take the lead in Game 3, but Voltes forced a Game 5 behind Zero’s stellar Novaria showing.

In the end, MDL veteran Drinsanity delivered in the decider, with his X.Borg posting a 4/1/4 stat line to send Aurora to their first semifinal since their debut season — a massive leap from their last-place finish in Season 4.

Kingdom topples the Rough World

RRQ Kaito punched their third consecutive playoffs ticket with a dominant sweep of third-seeded AP.Bren Rough World Era.

Minguin opened with a surprise Vexana pick, tallying 2 kills and 8 assists, before Ferdz’s off-meta Chou EXP laner outshined Ajayy’s Cici to grab Game 2 in 18 minutes. Game 3 saw Kelvin’s Suyou shine with a 7/2/5 line to finish off the series and bring RRQ back into title contention — aiming to reclaim the throne they last held in Season 3.

Back to the live stage

MDL Philippines will bring the playoffs to a live audience for the first time since Season 3, with Season 5 set to culminate at the East Wing Atrium of Greenhills Mall.

Top-seeded Smart Omega NEOS will try to halt ONIC Nine Lives’ improbable Cinderella run in the first semifinal match, while former champions RRQ Kaito will aim to shut down the surge of the rising Aurora Hunters in the second matchup.
