M6-bound Fnatic ONIC PH, Aurora qualify for ESL Snapdragon S6 Challenge Season
Both MPL Philippines Season 14 finalists and M6 World Championship favorites Fnatic ONIC PH and Aurora Gaming book their tickets to the ESL Snapdragon Pro Series MLBB Season 6 Challenge Season after a week of MLBB action.
The two teams grab their seats at the next level of the ESL SPS event after clinching four wins differently, besting 27 more teams in the process.
Aurora kept a clean slate to an earlier qualification
The Auroras have been undefeated in their Swiss stage campaign, starting with a quick 2-0 victory over one of the top Filipino amateur teams in Gamerpact Chiefs as Jonard Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto’s Suyou and Alpha led the team.
MPL Cambodia’s contender Duck Rice Esports became a challenge to RORA, who lost only by a reverse sweep as Demonkite and Renejay “Renejay” Barcase avoided a potential upset against an all-Cambodian five.
Aurora then took down fellow MPL-PH contenders Smart Omega with Jan Dominic “Domeng” del Mundo stepping up against Jomari “Jowm” Pingol with the Moskov and Lunox in two games before having a potential M6 series marquee matchup between Indonesian powerhouse RRQ Hoshi.
Renejay and Kenneth “Yue” Tadeo became crucial in a quick sweep of the Kingdom, who didn’t qualify after being knocked out by Myanmar’s AI Esports in the fifth round.
Harder route for the reigning champs
Fnatic ONIC PH had a similar start to Aurora as they defeated Jon Redick “Super Red” Bordeos and Cambodian org PRO Esports before taking down Singapore’s surprise MPL team RIFT Esports, both in 2-0 sweeps.
RRQ Hoshi was a different story however as Schevenko David “Skylar” Tendean led the Kingdom in taking the Sonics down.
FNOP had to battle their way back to contention as they escaped two Malaysian teams, as they knocked Monster Vicious out in a reverse sweep thanks to King Cyric “K1NGKONG” Perez and Frince Miguel “Super Frince” Ramirez, while Duane “Kelra” Pillas led the team against JP Niners.
In a preview of their first round affair at M6, FNOP make quick work of MPL Indonesia champions Team Liquid ID to grab their spot, as Kelra and K1NGKONG were too much for Favian “Faviannn” Bayu Putra and Sultan “AeronShikii” Muhammad.
New MLBB year to start with Challenge Season
FNOP and RORA will be joined by Indonesian teams Alter Ego, EVOS Hokly, and Team Liquid ID to the Challenge Season alongside 11 more directly-invited teams from January 6 to 12 next year.
The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four teams, where they will be competing in GSL format, with the top team in each group getting a ticket to the Challenge Finals.
The second-placed team in each group will be competing in a Last Chance Qualifier group to determine the last two entrants to the Challenge Finals and complete the cast of 12 teams.
