Capcom unveils Monster Hunter Wilds updates, Onimusha remaster, and fighting game surprises

Capcom delivered a thrilling showcase, revealing fresh details about Monster Hunter Wilds, a surprise drop for MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a 2026 release window for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and an upcoming remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny.

The event also confirmed the May 16 launch of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 and several other exciting updates for fans.

Monster Hunter Wilds Introduces New Monsters and Beta Details

With Monster Hunter Wilds just weeks away from its February 28 release, producer Ryozo Tsujimoto introduced a new trailer showcasing the Iceshard Cliffs, a snow-covered region home to the newly revealed Hirabami, a Leviathan with sail-like membranes that allow it to strike from the air.

The trailer also featured the return of two fan-favorite monsters, Nerscylla and Gore Magala, adding to the game’s growing roster of creatures.

Capcom announced that a second Open Beta Test will take place across two periods: February 6 to February 9 and February 13 to February 16. This beta introduces the flagship monster Arkveld, along with returning monster Gypceros, a Base Camp Training Area, and new online features, including Private Lobbies and Online Single Player mode.Like the first beta, players can create their own character and carry over their data to the full game.

Capcom also confirmed that PS5 Pro Enhanced features will be available at launch, with ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) enhancing the visuals.

For those on PC, the Monster Hunter Wilds Benchmark tool is now available, allowing players to test their system’s performance ahead of release.

Onimusha Returns with a New Game and a Remaster

The showcase also marked the return of the Onimusha series with two major announcements. Capcom revealed Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a new entry in the franchise, set for release in 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Set in feudal Japan, the game follows a new protagonist wielding the Oni Gauntlet, battling the demonic Genma across iconic Kyoto landmarks.

In addition, Capcom confirmed that a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is in development and will launch in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Originally released in 2002, this title became the franchise’s best-selling entry, known for its deep storyline and intense combat.

Meanwhile, the remaster of the first game, Onimusha: Warlords, is now available at a discounted price across digital storefronts.

MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Collection Surprise Launch and Fighting Game Updates

Capcom surprised fans with the immediate digital release of MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics on Xbox One, making the collection now available across Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

This release brings classic titles like X-MEN vs. STREET FIGHTER, MARVEL vs. CAPCOM 2, and THE PUNISHER to even more players.

Additionally, Capcom confirmed that Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will launch on May 16, with pre-orders open now. This latest collection features titles such as Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 and Power Stone 2, complete with rollback netcode for smooth online play.

Players who pre-order the game will receive remixed music tracks by CAP-JAMS, and select physical copies will include an exclusive Capcom vs. SNK comic.

Beyond these major reveals, Capcom shared several other exciting updates. A new Ōkami + Kunitsu-Gami Bundle is now available, offering Ōkami HD alongside Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, which features exclusive Ōkami-themed items.

In Street Fighter 6, Mai joins the roster on February 5, following the arrivals of M. Bison and Terry in Year 2 DLC, with Elena set to complete the lineup. Fans can also check out the latest “Say Hello to Mai!” Fighting Pass, featuring items inspired by Fatal Fury.

Meanwhile, the Capcom Cup 11 tournament is set to take place from March 5 to March 9, 2025, at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo arena, with a massive $1 million grand prize up for grabs.

Tickets for the event are available now, and viewers can tune in live via YouTube and Twitch.
