Aurora falls short of Snapdragon Pro Series Season 6 APAC Challenge Finals playoff spot despite two wins in Day 3

JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia – MPL Philippines Season 14 runners-up Aurora Gaming ends up short in claiming a playoff spot in the ESL Snapdragon Pro Series Season 6 APAC Challenge Finals playoffs.

This is despite winning two series in the final day of the group stage on Wednesday against fellow Filipino side Team Falcons PH and Indonesian side EVOS Holy.

Close fight against the compatriots

The northern lights started the day on the wrong foot as Team Falcons won 13-4, with Michael Angelo “KyleTzy” Sayson getting five kills and six assists with the Alpha.

FLCN cannot sustain their momentum as they conceded a late comeback in Game 2 against Aurora 22-15. Jonard Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto and Kenneth Carl “Yue” Tadeo combined for 17 kills and 20 assists to lead the game.

Demonkite went berserk in the decider game with eight kills and seven assists with Suyou as they dominated the Falcons 16-5. The norther lights neutralized Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo’s Badang who fell five times.

EVOS got Holy grilled

Aurora needed a 19-minute win over Indonesian side EVOS Holy, with the former taking superior map control throughout the game.

Jan Dominic “Domengkite” del Mundo scored four kills and six assists with the Granger while Edward Jay “Edward” Dapadap’s Hilda claimed four kills.

The Aurora gold laner kept his momentum going with a 24-12 smashing of EVOS Holy, getting 11 kills and 10 assists with the Harith.

EVOS Holy’s Hengky “Kyy” Gunawan fell seven times with the Tigreal as he only assisted six times for the Indonesian side.

ONIC PH’s first defeat in 17 matches

Team Liquid ID exact their revenge over world champions ONIC Philippines in the rematch of the M6 World Championship finals.

Frince “Super Frince” Ramirez’ Vexana assisted ten but to no avail as they were defeated in 19 minutes, with them trailing the entire game.

Favian “Faviannn” Putra took the MVP honors with a 13/3/6 performance from his Joy while Aldhia Fahmi “Aran” Aranda’s Badang claimed four kills and 12 assists.

Christian Widy Wardhana “Widy” Hartono’s Mathida play made wonders as he tallied four kills and 12 assists in a 17-8 domination in Game 2.

King Cyric “K1NGKONG” Perez’s Alpha had a hard time in 14 minutes, falling five times without a single kill or lord take.

ONIC PH however will still proceed to the playoffs as they placed second in Group A with 12 points, conceding their first loss after a 16-0 run from November last year.

Team Falcons entered the playoffs despite defeat

The Falcon derby started in the right path for the Filipino side as Team Falcons PH claimed a 13-4 beating of Burmese side Falcon Esports in Game 1 of their last match.

Both KyleTzy’s Suyou and Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel’s Zhuxin delivered for the Pinoy side, each with three kills and five assists.

However, the Burmese falcons strike back with a 21-5 domination as Min “Beni” Swan Kon’s Karrie took over with six kills and nine assists.

The third game turned into a classic as Falcon Esports overturn an fight back from Team Falcons, 23-16.

Yar “Px7” Zar Mon’s Luo Yi became big in the closing moments of the game as he led the Burmese side to a 20th minute fightback the proved to be fatal for the Filipino side.

However, despite two losses, Team Falcons PH proceeded to the playoffs as the best team in Group B thanks to their head-t0-head win against Indonesia’s ONIC Esports.

Valentines’ Day is playoffs day

There will be no love lost for the six remaining teams, with Team Liquid ID and Team Falcons PH heading  straight in the upper bracket semifinals as the top-seeded teams.

Bigetron Alpha will join ONIC PH, entering the playoffs after a 2-1 victory over MSC champs Selangor Red Giants.

RRQ Hoshi, despite suffering a defeat against ONIC ID, squeezed themselves in the playoffs as they won the head-to-head tiebreaker against Aurora and Falcon Esports.

ONIC ID will face Bigetron in the quarterfinals, with the winner facing fellow Indonesian side TLID.

Team Falcons PH will be waiting for the winner of the marquee matchup between ONIC PH and RRQ Hoshi.
