Smart Omega, Team Liquid emerge as MPL Philippines Season 16 Week 6 heats up
MAKATI — Smart Omega and Team Liquid PH strengthened their playoff push in MPL Philippines Season 16 after scoring key victories on Sunday inside the Green Sun Hotel.
The Barangay survived a gritty Team Falcons PH side, while the Cavalry weathered a Twisted Minds scare to wrap up the weekend.
Barangay snatch win over struggling Falcons
Smart Omega opened the day with a steady 17-minute win against the Green Falcons in Game 1. Czedrick “SUPERYOSHI” Romero earned MVP honors with a masterful 0/2/9 Grock performance, landing several clash-winning Tectonic Charge initiations that set the tone for the Barangay.
Team Falcons, however, refused to fold. They struck back in Game 2 with a 16-minute win behind Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel’s standout showing on Zhuxin, posting seven kills and five assists. Marco “SuperMarco” Requitiano also contributed heavily with a flawless 5/0/5 Karrie game, forcing a decider against the Barangay.
But the momentum proved short-lived as Omega sealed the series with a grinding 21-minute Game 3 win. Despite conceding both lord and turtle, Omega’s teamfight execution shined when Kenneth “Netskie” Barro’s Karrie broke through with a four-kill, five-assist MVP performance. The turning point came during the first lord fight, where the Barangay wiped four Falcons members despite losing the objective.
Now at 5–6, Smart Omega will prepare for a rematch against Team Liquid PH in Week 7, while the struggling Falcons (2–9) will face ONIC Philippines in a must-win outing on Friday.
Team Liquid spoil Sionnn’s stellar performance
Twisted Minds started strong in their series opener, taking a 21-minute Game 1 win on the back of Miguel “Sionnn” Alcantara’s record-setting performance. Sionnn exploded with 18 kills and three assists without a single death—the highest kill tally in a flawless game since Salic “Hadji” Imam’s 19-kill outing back in October 2020.
Team Liquid responded with composure, bouncing back in Game 2 with a 14-minute stomp. Kiel “Oheb” Soriano’s Harith carried the Cavalry with six kills and three assists, as Twisted Minds struggled to secure objectives, managing only a turtle and failing to take down a single turret.
The Cavalry closed the series with a dominant 16-minute Game 3 win, outkilling Twisted Minds 16–4. Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno starred with an undefeated 5/0/10 Yi Sun-shin, while the rest of Liquid denied Twisted Minds every major objective. Mico “Nosia” Capil, meanwhile, had a quiet series closer with only one assist and three deaths on Moskov.
With the win, Team Liquid improved to 7–3 and will next clash with Aurora Gaming on Monday. Twisted Minds, now sitting at 5–6, will also face the Northern Lights later in the week on Friday.
