ONIC PH, Team Liquid PH score wins as MPL Philippines Season 16 first half closes
MAKATI – MPL Philippines Season 16 wrapped up its first half with fireworks as ONIC Philippines outlasted TNC Pro Team in a tense 2-1 series, while Team Liquid PH swept AP.Bren to close the day on a dominant note inside the Green Sun Hotel.
ONIC PH edges TNC in three-game thriller
ONIC Philippines bounced back from their midweek slip against Twisted Minds by taking down TNC Pro Team, but the Super Family had to grind through all three games to get it done.
Game 1 saw King Cyric “K1NGKONG” Perez back on his comfort pick, Lancelot, slicing through TNC’s defense with a 6/0/2 performance. ONIC secured every turtle and lord, suffocating TNC’s map control while Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales added pressure from the gold lane.
But the Phoenix answered in Game 2, rising with an 18-minute win that forced a decider. Frediemar “3Mar” Serafico’s Arlott was everywhere, dishing out crowd control and space. This let Justine “Zaida” Palma’s Yi Sun-shin feast with an 8/0/7 stat line. ONIC’s jungle cracked under pressure as K1NGKONG struggled to 1/4/2.
In Game 3, ONIC slammed the door shut in just 11 minutes. Duane “Kelra” Pillas pulled out a clinical Granger performance, scoring seven kills and an assist, while the rest of ONIC secured full map dominance. TNC never found a way back after falling behind early, sealing the 2-1 win for the Super Family.
ONIC now stands at 5-2, second in the standings, and will face Team Liquid PH next week in a clash of heavyweights. TNC, sliding to 3-4, looks to regain momentum against Smart Omega.
Team Liquid PH sweeps AP.Bren with style
Team Liquid PH capped the day with a commanding 2-0 sweep of AP.Bren, highlighted by a career milestone for their midlaner.
Game 1 stretched nearly 20 minutes, with Alston “Sanji” Pabico’s Zhuxin dictating tempo in every clash. Sanji stole the spotlight at the final lord fight, wiping out five straight AP.Bren players for his first-ever savage. It also marked the 24th in MPL Philippines history.
Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya added fuel to the fire with a bruising Dyrroth pick, sealing the opener.
The Cavalry wasted no time in Game 2, dismantling AP.Bren 7-4 in just 13 minutes. Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s signature Lancelot was flawless, participating in all seven kills and ensuring AP.Bren never touched a major objective. Arvie “Aqua” Antonio’s Valentina and James “JamesPangks” Mendoza’s Joy tried to keep pace but found no openings against TL’s airtight rotations.
Now sitting at 5-2, Team Liquid PH sets up a blockbuster showdown against ONIC PH to open Week 5. AP.Bren, languishing at 2-5, faces Smart Omega in hopes of keeping their playoff dreams alive.
