MDL PH and Twisted Minds issue statements on alleged match-fixing case
MANILA – The MLBB Developmental League Philippines (MDL PH) and Twisted Minds PH address the alleged match-fixing scandal that surfaced during Week 2 of the season, assuring fans that investigations are underway.
The league stressed in its statement that it took the matter seriously, emphasizing its commitment to professionalism and integrity.
“Please be assured that MDL Philippines takes match-fixing very seriously. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and will not tolerate any actions that compromise the integrity of our tournament,” the league said.
Twisted Minds also released its own statement, confirming that it worked closely with league officials. The organization added that it would follow due process and impose strict action if necessary.
“Should any individual be found guilty of violating competitive integrity rules, we will enforce decisive and appropriate sanctions without hesitation,” the team said.
The controversy emerged after alleged screenshots circulated on social media implicating Twisted Minds’ MDL squad, Twisted Minds BEAR, in a scheme to throw games in exchange for money.
Penalties
MDL and MPL Philippines both had firm policies against unprofessional conduct. These include match-fixing and any form of compensation tied to competitive results.
Section 13.3 of the MPL Philippines rulebook, which extended to MDL, stated: “No Team Member may offer, agree, conspire, or attempt to influence the outcome of a Game or Match by any means that are prohibited by law or these Rules.”
The handbook also required teams and players to report any knowledge of match-fixing. The league will penalized those with knowledge but didn’t report of the situation.
It remained unclear what sanctions MDL PH would impose if the allegations proved true. However, in a similar case last year, players found guilty of match-fixing received three-year bans from all Moonton-endorsed competitions. These competitions include both MPL PH and MDL PH.
