Path of Exile 2 reveals Patch 0.1.1 details; new endgame, added improvements as Early Access continues

Grinding Gear Games’ upcoming action RPG title Path of Exile 2’s patch 0.1.1 introduces significant updates to enhance gameplay and address community feedback. Effective on Friday, January 17, POE2’s patch note served as part of the continuation of the game’s early access.

This patch contains new endgame tower maps, checkpoints for map areas, respawn attempts for the Arbiter of Ash, as well as many monster changes, unique changes, improvements and bug fixes.

Endgame Enhancements

Four new Tower Map areas—Alpine Ridge, Bluff, Mesa, and Sinking Spire—have been added to diversify endgame exploration. Additionally, the Lost Towers Map area has undergone a comprehensive revamp to enrich player experience.

Arbiter of Ash Boss Fight Adjustments

To mitigate the challenge of having only one attempt at the Arbiter of Ash boss fight, players will now have up to six respawn attempts. These respawns are initiated by the keyholder, reviving the entire party simultaneously. Exiting the map forfeits remaining attempts, and higher difficulty levels reduce the number of respawns available.

Furthermore, the Arbiter of Ash can no longer be interrupted during his falling flame seed skill, and his flaming gale skill is now unblockable. The boss remains invulnerable longer during emergence and takes significantly reduced damage while emerging. Targeting of minions with his sword has also been reduced to prevent skill disruption.

Map Area Improvements

Checkpoints have been added to map areas, enhancing progression continuity. Each map now contains a minimum of three rare monsters, and citadels can spawn closer to the Ziggurat Refuge with improved visibility on the endgame map.

Maps now display their biome when hovered over in the Atlas UI, aiding navigation.

Overseer’s Precursor Tablet

A new currency item, the Overseer’s Precursor Tablet, can be placed in completed towers to add map bosses to valid maps within its radius. These tablets drop from map bosses and can roll exclusive modifiers affecting map bosses, adding strategic depth to gameplay.

Map Specialization Adjustments

To feature more distinct specializations, Path of Exile 2 developers made adjustments on their maps.

  • Some maps now spawn up to double the number of chests, including a higher count of magic or rare chests.
  • Certain maps contain up to double the number of monsters, increasing combat opportunities.
  • Select maps feature a 50% increase in magic or rare monsters, enhancing loot potential.
  • Maps exclusive to biomes with citadels now have a 50% higher chance to contain essences, strongboxes, and shrines.

Unclaimed hideout areas now host substantially more magic monsters and fewer rare monsters. The Untainted Paradise has doubled its monster population, with a corresponding increase in magic and rare monsters, intensifying the challenge.

Additional Improvements

The patch also includes numerous monster changes, unique item adjustments, and bug fixes to refine overall gameplay. These updates aim to provide a more balanced and engaging experience for all players.

Monster Changes
  • Many maps feature different proportions of magic and rare monsters, prompting adjustments from developers. Some areas now spawn double the monsters compared to before, increasing combat density and opportunities for loot.
  • Unclaimed hideouts now contain significantly more magic monsters but fewer rare monsters, balancing the challenge and rewards.
  • This map has doubled its overall monster population, including an increase in the number of magic and rare monsters, making it more challenging and rewarding to complete.
Unique Item Adjustments
  • Specific unique items have received changes to their stats or mechanics, although the patch notes don’t specify which items. These changes are likely aimed at rebalancing the items to align with gameplay goals and current meta.
  • New exclusive modifiers for map bosses and encounters are tied to certain currency items, like the Overseer’s Precursor Tablet. These enhance the variety and strategy of builds players can use.
Bug Fixes
  • Path of Exile resolves several issues on players and monsters’ skills, improving the reliability of mechanics during gameplay.
  • Hovering over maps in the Atlas UI now displays their biome, making it easier for players to plan their strategies.
  • The patch includes fixes to reduce crashes and lag during intensive encounters, particularly in boss fights and heavily populated areas.
Gameplay Refinements
  • The addition of checkpoints in map areas means players can resume progress more effectively after a defeat.
  • Citadels now appear closer to the Ziggurat Refuge and have better visual representation on the endgame map, ensuring that players don’t miss key objectives.
  • The maps now have biome-specific features and rewards that are visible, offering players better navigation and planning options for progression.

Path of Exile 2 is available for early access mode on Windows, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
